Privacy Policy

Last updated 27 July 2026 · Version 1.0

Menu Hunter is a community-built catalog of restaurant menus in the Philippines. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and what you can do about it. We handle personal data in accordance with the Data Privacy Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10173) and its implementing rules.

The short version. You can browse menus without an account. If you make an account we keep your email, display name and whatever you choose to contribute. We do not sell your data. You can export or delete your account at any time, from inside the app or at menu-hunter.com/delete-account.

1. Who is responsible for your data

Menu Hunter operates the menu-hunter.com website and the Menu Hunter mobile apps, and is the personal information controller for the data described here. For any privacy question or to exercise the rights in section 8, contact our Data Protection Officer at privacy@menu-hunter.com.

3. Consent

When you register we ask you to agree to this policy, and we record the date and the policy version alongside your account. If we materially change how we use personal data we will publish a new version and ask you to consent again the next time you open the app.

4. How we use your data

We do not use your personal data for automated decisions that have a legal effect on you, and we do not sell or rent personal data to anyone.

5. What other people can see

Your display name and your contributions (approved menu photos, reviews and ratings) are visible to other users. Your email address, phone number and exact location are never shown publicly. Your favourites are private to you.

6. Restaurant owner verification documents

To claim a listing, an owner uploads a business permit and a valid ID. These are treated differently from everything else:

7. Sharing and disclosure

We share personal data only in these situations:

In-app orders are settled directly with the restaurant in cash or through the shop's own e-wallet. Menu Hunter does not process payments for orders and never holds your funds or card data.

8. Your rights under RA 10173

You have the right to be informed, to object, to access, to rectify, to erase or block, to damages, and to data portability. In practice:

9. Deleting your account

Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. When you delete your account:

We keep a record that a deletion happened, storing only a one-way hash of the email address. This lets us prove we honoured the request without keeping the identity we were asked to erase.

10. Retention

We keep account data for as long as your account exists. Verification documents are deleted as soon as a claim is decided (section 6). Security and access logs are kept for up to 12 months. Deletion audit records are kept indefinitely in the hashed form described above.

11. Security

Passwords are stored using bcrypt hashing and never in plain text. Traffic to menu-hunter.com is encrypted with HTTPS. Access to production data is restricted to authorised personnel. Verification documents are stored outside the public web root. No system is perfectly secure, but if a breach affects your personal data we will notify you and the National Privacy Commission as RA 10173 requires.

12. Where your data is stored

Our servers and storage are operated on our own infrastructure. If we ever transfer personal data outside the Philippines we will ensure comparable protection as required by RA 10173.

13. Changes to this policy

We will post any revision on this page with a new version number and date, and ask for renewed consent in the app when the change is material.
